We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Engineer to join our Technical Services team in Bwiam, Gambia. Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and unscheduled corrective maintenance on Siemens Healthineers medical equipment, including imaging systems and laboratory analyzers.
- Diagnose complex technical malfunctions using specialized diagnostic software and tools, and execute repairs to restore equipment functionality.
- Conduct performance tests, safety inspections, and calibrations to ensure equipment meets original manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all service activities, parts usage, and equipment histories in the company’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support and guidance to clinical end-users on the proper operation and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
- Manage spare parts inventory, order necessary components, and ensure proper handling and return of defective parts.
- Collaborate with the regional engineering team and factory support for escalated technical issues and software updates.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company safety protocols, quality standards, and healthcare facility regulations.
- Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, including site planning and acceptance testing.
- Stay current with technical advancements, new product releases, and updated service procedures through continuous training.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining high-tech electronic and electromechanical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and software error logs.
- Excellent knowledge of radiation safety (for imaging roles), electrical safety standards, and general laboratory safety protocols.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized computer-based service applications.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical personnel.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize service calls in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Advanced diplomas with substantial relevant experience may be considered. Professional certifications such as Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or manufacturer-specific certifications from Siemens Healthineers are a significant advantage and highly preferred. Ongoing education in new medical technologies is expected.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex medical equipment is essential. Experience specifically with Siemens Healthineers diagnostic imaging (e.g., MRI, CT) or laboratory diagnostics equipment is a major plus. Prior experience working in a hospital biomedical engineering department or for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service organization is highly desirable.
