Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Customs Broker to join our Brikama operations. This role is critical to our success, ensuring that all imported and exported goods comply with Gambian customs regulations and international trade laws. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process complex customs declarations and documentation for various types of cargo.
- Liaise with customs officials to ensure compliance with all local and international trade regulations.
- Advise clients on tariff classifications, duties, and regulatory requirements to prevent delays.
- Audit shipping documents to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission to authorities.
- Monitor cargo movement and provide real-time updates to stakeholders regarding clearance status.
- Resolve discrepancies in documentation or cargo classification through effective negotiation and research.
- Stay updated on changes in international trade laws and local customs policies.
Required Skills
- Expert knowledge of the Harmonized System (HS) codes and tariff classifications.
- Strong understanding of Gambian customs laws and international maritime/air freight regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Advanced problem-solving skills to navigate regulatory hurdles and logistical bottlenecks.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interacting with government officials and clients.
- Proficiency in logistics management software and advanced Excel.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is mandatory. Professional certification in Customs Brokerage or Freight Forwarding is highly preferred and will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of direct experience in customs brokerage or freight forwarding, specifically within the West African regulatory context. Proven experience in managing high-volume shipments and interacting with customs authorities is essential for success in this role.
Salary
