Job Overview
The Chief Data Privacy Officer (CDPO) will lead Flutterwave Gambia’s data protection strategy, ensuring compliance with local regulations, international standards, and industry best practices. Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer, the CDPO will develop and implement privacy policies, oversee data governance frameworks, and act as the primary liaison with regulators and stakeholders. This role is pivotal in safeguarding customer data, building trust, and supporting the company’s growth objectives in the highly regulated FinTech landscape. The CDPO will also collaborate with product, engineering, legal, and risk teams to embed privacy by design into all digital solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enforce comprehensive data privacy policies aligned with Gambia’s Data Protection Act and global standards such as GDPR and CCPA.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new products, services, and system enhancements.
- Lead incident response for data breaches, coordinating investigations, notifications, and remediation actions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data protection authorities, auditors, and external partners.
- Educate and train employees on privacy principles, fostering a culture of data protection across the organization.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise senior leadership on emerging compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with IT security teams to implement technical safeguards, including encryption, access controls, and anonymization techniques.
- Maintain detailed documentation of data processing activities, consent mechanisms, and data subject requests.
- Oversee third‑party risk assessments to ensure vendors adhere to privacy obligations.
- Report regularly to the executive board on privacy metrics, risk exposure, and mitigation strategies.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of data protection laws in Gambia, West Africa, and major international frameworks.
- Proven experience designing and implementing privacy programs in FinTech or related sectors.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with regulators, senior executives, and cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical operational controls.
- Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and driving cultural change.
- Familiarity with cloud environments, API security, and data lifecycle management.
- Certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent is highly desirable.
Education
A Master’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in privacy or data protection will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the FinTech or financial services industry.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and equity participation may also be offered.
