Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing optimization strategies across Africell’s radio access network (RAN) and core network in Gambia. This position involves close collaboration with network planning, operations, and performance teams to ensure optimal coverage, capacity, and quality of service. The role requires a deep understanding of telecommunications standards, RF engineering, and data‑driven performance analysis. Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive network performance analysis using drive‑test data, OSS tools, and KPI dashboards.
- Develop and implement optimization strategies to improve coverage, capacity, and quality of service.
- Collaborate with the Radio Planning team to design and validate network enhancements.
- Lead field trials for new technologies, including 5G pilot projects and advanced antenna configurations.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network issues, providing root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to senior management and cross‑functional teams.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in RF planning and optimization tools (e.g., Atoll, Mentum, TEMS).
- Experience with LTE and 5G network technologies, including RAN and core components.
- Ability to interpret drive‑test data, KPI trends, and performance metrics.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to work independently on complex projects.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS, or Ericsson Certified Engineer are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in network optimization, RF engineering, or a similar role within the telecommunications sector. Experience with African market networks is a plus.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and benefits.
