Job Overview

IFAD is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Sustainable Agriculture Specialist to join its team in Niamina, Gambia. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance to farmers, agricultural extension agents, and other stakeholders to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.

The Sustainable Agriculture Specialist will work closely with the IFAD country office, government agencies, and other partners to develop and implement programs that promote sustainable agriculture practices, improve soil health, and increase crop yields.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, experience working with farmers and agricultural extension agents, and a proven track record of developing and implementing successful agricultural programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to farmers, agricultural extension agents, and other stakeholders to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.
  • Develop and implement programs that promote sustainable agriculture practices, improve soil health, and increase crop yields.
  • Work closely with the IFAD country office, government agencies, and other partners to develop and implement programs that benefit rural people.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor program progress and provide technical support to farmers and agricultural extension agents.
  • Develop and submit reports on program progress and impact.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in agricultural development, with a focus on sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful agricultural programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field.

Experience

5-7 years of experience working in agricultural development, with a focus on sustainable agriculture practices.

Salary

50,000 – 70,000 SSP per annum.
