Job Overview

The Network Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of MTN Gambia’s core and access networks. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor real‑time network performance using OSS/BSS tools and respond to alarms within defined SLAs.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across radio access network (RAN), core, and transport layers.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, software upgrades, and capacity expansion projects.
  • Collaborate with vendor engineers to implement new technologies and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Document network configurations, change requests, and incident reports accurately.
  • Participate in network optimization initiatives to improve coverage, throughput, and quality of service.
  • Support the rollout of 5G trial sites and related testing activities.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and field technicians.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of LTE/4G, GSM, and emerging 5G network architectures.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring platforms (e.g., NetAct, OSS, NMS).
  • Hands‑on experience with routers, switches, microwave links, and optical transport.
  • Solid understanding of IP protocols, MPLS, and QoS mechanisms.
  • Analytical problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple incidents simultaneously.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNCIP, or Nokia NRS are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.

Experience

Candidates should possess 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in network operations within a telecom environment, preferably with exposure to both radio and core network components.
