Job Overview

The Network Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in maintaining and optimizing Gamtel’s core telecommunications network, which includes fiber optic backbones, microwave links, and mobile radio access networks. Reporting to the Head of Network Operations, the engineer will monitor network performance, troubleshoot faults, and implement enhancements that improve reliability and capacity. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor real‑time network performance using NOC tools and generate daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
• Diagnose and resolve network faults, including fiber cuts, equipment failures, and configuration issues, within agreed service level agreements.
• Coordinate with field technicians and vendors to schedule maintenance activities and ensure minimal service disruption.
• Implement network upgrades, capacity expansions, and technology migrations in line with Gamtel’s strategic roadmap.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of recurring incidents and develop preventive action plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation of network topology, configurations, and change management records.
• Participate in on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical network incidents.
• Collaborate with the security team to enforce network security policies and mitigate vulnerabilities.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of telecom network protocols (IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, LTE, 5G).
• Proficiency with network monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or equivalent.
• Hands‑on experience with fiber optic splicing, microwave link alignment, and RF engineering concepts.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with ITIL or similar service management frameworks is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience
