Job Overview
The Financial Risk Manager will lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks across the bank’s portfolio in Gambia. This includes credit, market, liquidity, and operational risk components, ensuring compliance with both local regulatory requirements and international best practices. The role involves close collaboration with senior management, business units, and external auditors to develop robust risk frameworks, conduct stress testing, and produce comprehensive risk reports. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the bank’s risk culture, driving proactive risk management, and supporting strategic decision‑making. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive risk assessment models for credit, market, and operational risk.
- Conduct regular risk monitoring, stress testing, and scenario analysis to anticipate potential threats.
- Prepare detailed risk reports for senior management, board committees, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with business units to embed risk controls into product development and daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with the Central Bank of The Gambia’s regulations and international standards such as Basel III.
- Lead risk workshops and training sessions for staff to promote a strong risk‑aware culture.
- Assist in the development of the bank’s risk appetite framework and policy documentation.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in risk modelling tools.
- In‑depth knowledge of banking regulations, Basel III, and local financial legislation.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities to convey complex risk concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in risk management software (e.g., SAS, R, Python) and advanced Excel.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional risk initiatives.
- High ethical standards and attention to detail.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have at least five years of progressive experience in financial risk management within a banking environment. Experience in emerging markets, particularly in West Africa, is advantageous. Proven track record of developing risk frameworks, conducting stress tests, and interacting with regulators is essential.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary range of 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are part of the total remuneration package.
