Job Overview
The Sustainable Agriculture Program Manager will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of Cargill’s sustainability initiatives in the North Bank Region. This role focuses on integrating climate‑smart agriculture, soil health improvement, and responsible water management into the daily operations of local farms and supply chain partners. The manager will collaborate with agronomists, local NGOs, government agencies, and farmer cooperatives to develop scalable solutions that enhance productivity while preserving natural resources. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sustainable agriculture strategy aligned with Cargill’s global ESG goals and local regulatory requirements.
- Conduct baseline assessments of soil health, water use, and biodiversity on partner farms, and set measurable improvement targets.
- Design and deliver farmer training modules on climate‑smart practices, precision farming, and integrated pest management.
- Coordinate pilot projects that test innovative technologies such as drip irrigation, cover cropping, and low‑input fertilizer regimes.
- Monitor project performance using data analytics, produce quarterly impact reports, and adjust interventions based on findings.
- Engage with government ministries, research institutions, and NGOs to secure funding, share best practices, and influence policy.
- Facilitate knowledge exchange between Cargill’s global sustainability experts and local stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Cargill’s Code of Conduct, health and safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of sustainable agriculture principles, climate‑smart farming, and agronomic best practices.
- Excellent project management abilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, GIS, statistical software).
- Effective communication and facilitation skills for diverse audiences, including smallholder farmers and senior executives.
- Ability to build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and research bodies.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (Mandinka, Wolof) is an advantage.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Natural Resources Management, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in sustainability, project management, or agribusiness is highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants should have 5‑7 years of progressive experience in sustainable agriculture program design and implementation, preferably within a multinational agribusiness or development organization. Experience working directly with smallholder farmers in West Africa is a strong plus.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 Gambian Dalasi (SSP), commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for travel and fieldwork are also included.
