Job Overview
The Credit Risk Analyst will play a pivotal role in assessing, monitoring, and managing the credit risk portfolio of Ecobank Gambia. Reporting to the Head of Credit Risk Management, the analyst will evaluate loan applications, conduct financial analysis, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. This position is integral to safeguarding the bank’s assets while supporting the growth of credit products that meet the needs of both retail and corporate clients. The role involves close collaboration with relationship managers, underwriting teams, and senior risk officers to deliver sound risk assessments and recommendations.
In addition to day‑to‑day credit analysis, the analyst will contribute to the development of risk models, participate in portfolio reviews, and assist in the preparation of risk reports for senior management and regulators. Key Responsibilities
- Analyze credit proposals, financial statements, and market data to assess borrower creditworthiness.
- Prepare detailed credit risk reports, including risk ratings, mitigation strategies, and recommendation summaries.
- Monitor existing loan portfolios for early warning signs, covenant breaches, and emerging risks.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to structure loan terms that align with risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of credit risk models and scoring systems.
- Participate in periodic portfolio reviews and stress testing exercises.
- Ensure compliance with the Central Bank of The Gambia’s guidelines and internal credit policies.
- Provide training and guidance to junior analysts and other staff on credit assessment techniques.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in financial statement analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder interaction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with credit risk software is a plus.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset and strong ethical standards.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or equivalent are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience
Applicants should have 2‑4 years of experience in credit analysis, risk assessment, or related banking functions. Experience within the Gambian market or West African financial institutions is highly desirable.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 30,000 to SSP 45,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives may be offered.
