Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, reliability, and capacity of Africell’s radio access network (RAN) in the Basse region and beyond. Reporting to the Senior Network Planning Manager, the incumbent will analyze network data, design optimization strategies, and implement solutions that improve coverage, throughput, and quality of service. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive drive‑test and performance analysis to identify coverage gaps, interference, and capacity constraints.
• Develop and execute optimization plans for LTE and upcoming 5G networks, focusing on parameters such as antenna tilt, power settings, and handover thresholds.
• Collaborate with the Radio Frequency (RF) team to design and validate site configurations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Utilize network planning tools (e.g., Atoll, Mentum) to simulate scenarios and forecast traffic growth.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate dashboards for real‑time network health assessment.
• Coordinate with vendor engineers for software upgrades, firmware patches, and troubleshooting.
• Support the rollout of new cell sites and the integration of small cells in high‑density areas.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in data interpretation and statistical modeling.
• Hands‑on experience with LTE/5G network optimization tools and drive‑test equipment.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and stakeholder reporting.
• Familiarity with GSM, UMTS, LTE, and emerging 5G standards.
• Project management capabilities and attention to detail.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS, or Ericsson Certified Engineer are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of proven experience in network planning, optimization, or a similar technical role within the telecommunications sector. Experience with African market deployments and familiarity with local regulatory environments will be considered a strong asset.

Salary
