Job Overview

The Geotechnical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the planning, design, and execution of mining projects in the Farafenni region. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting site investigations, analyzing soil and rock properties, and providing technical recommendations that ensure safe and efficient extraction processes. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in‑situ testing.
• Analyze laboratory results to assess soil and rock behavior under mining conditions.
• Develop geotechnical models and design recommendations for slope stability, pit design, and ground support.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, environmental specialists, and construction teams to integrate geotechnical data into project plans.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, risk assessments, and feasibility studies for senior management.
• Monitor and evaluate geotechnical performance during construction and operation phases, recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and Anglo American’s safety protocols.
• Participate in community engagement initiatives to communicate project benefits and address local concerns.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, especially as applied to mining.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or Rocscience.

• Effective communication skills for reporting findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry, including field investigations, laboratory testing, and design of ground support systems. Experience working on projects in West Africa or similar environments is preferred.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
