Job Overview

The Aviation Safety Analyst will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all flight operations, maintenance activities, and ground handling processes at British Airways’ Banjul hub comply with international safety standards and local regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Head of Safety, the incumbent will conduct risk assessments, analyse safety data, develop mitigation strategies, and collaborate closely with pilots, engineers, and regulatory bodies such as the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority. This position is integral to maintaining the airline’s exemplary safety record, supporting the implementation of safety management systems (SMS), and driving a culture of proactive safety awareness throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive safety audits of flight operations, maintenance procedures, and ground handling activities at the Banjul hub.
• Analyse incident and accident data, identify trends, and produce actionable safety reports for senior management.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in line with ICAO Annex 19 and local aviation regulations.
• Collaborate with pilots, engineers, and airport authorities to ensure compliance with safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
• Maintain and continuously improve the Safety Management System (SMS) documentation and processes.
• Provide safety training and briefings to operational staff, fostering a proactive safety culture.
• Monitor regulatory changes and advise the organization on necessary procedural updates.
• Support internal and external safety investigations, preparing detailed findings and recommendations.
• Prepare safety performance metrics and present them to the Safety Committee on a quarterly basis.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of ICAO standards, EASA regulations, and local Gambia aviation safety requirements.
• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in safety data analysis tools and statistical software.
• Excellent communication skills for drafting clear safety reports and delivering effective training.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder relationships.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Safety Management, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Aviation Safety Management System (SMS) certification are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in aviation safety analysis, safety audits, or regulatory compliance within an airline or airport environment. Experience working with international safety standards and conducting safety investigations is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 SSP, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
