Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the bank’s data privacy framework in accordance with international regulations such as GDPR, as well as local data protection laws. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all personal and sensitive data processed by the bank is handled securely, transparently, and in compliance with legal obligations. The officer will collaborate closely with legal, IT, risk, and business units to embed privacy by design into all processes, conduct privacy impact assessments, and respond to data subject requests. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for data protection authorities and will drive a culture of privacy awareness throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update the bank’s data privacy policies, procedures, and standards.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, products, and services.
• Monitor compliance with GDPR, local data protection legislation, and industry best practices.
• Provide privacy guidance and training to business units, ensuring privacy by design is embedded in all initiatives.
• Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and coordinate responses within statutory timeframes.
• Serve as the primary liaison with data protection authorities and manage regulatory inquiries.
• Perform regular audits and risk assessments to identify privacy gaps and recommend remediation.
• Maintain a comprehensive record of processing activities (ROPA) and ensure its accuracy.
• Support incident response teams during data breaches, including notification procedures.
• Report privacy metrics and compliance status to senior management and the board.

Required Skills

• In-depth knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and local Gambia data protection regulations.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior leadership and external regulators.
• Proficiency in privacy management tools and data mapping software.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
• Project management experience with a focus on cross‑functional collaboration.
• High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, information security, or regulatory compliance within the banking or financial services sector. Demonstrated experience in conducting DPIAs, managing DSARs, and leading privacy training programs is essential.

Salary
