Job Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic Renewable Energy Investment Analyst to join our dynamic team in Bwiam. This pivotal role involves conducting in-depth financial analysis, due diligence, and risk assessment for renewable energy projects seeking financing or investment from the Bank and its partners. The successful candidate will play a key role in structuring deals, building complex financial models, and evaluating the commercial viability of solar, wind, mini-grid, and other clean energy initiatives across Gambia. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive financial due diligence and investment analysis for proposed renewable energy projects, including solar PV farms, wind projects, and battery storage systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and audit detailed financial models to evaluate project feasibility, equity returns, debt service coverage, and sensitivity to key variables.
  • Prepare investment memoranda, credit applications, and risk assessment reports for presentation to the Bank’s investment committee.
  • Conduct market research and analysis on Gambia’s energy sector, regulatory environment, tariff structures, and competitive landscape.
  • Support the structuring of financing packages, including blended finance instruments, guarantees, and public-private partnerships (PPPs).
  • Monitor the financial performance of the existing renewable energy project portfolio and prepare regular performance reports.
  • Engage with project sponsors, technical consultants, legal advisors, and government counterparts throughout the project cycle.
  • Contribute to policy dialogue and the development of strategies to mobilize private investment in Gambia’s renewable energy sector.

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in financial modeling (DCF, LBO) and valuation techniques specific to infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of project finance principles, credit risk analysis, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial analysis software; familiarity with Bloomberg or similar databases is a plus.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and presentations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria and climate finance is highly desirable.

Education

A Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration (MBA), Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential, Certified Investment and Financial Analyst (CIFA), or Project Finance certification are considered significant assets.

Experience

A minimum of 5 to 8 years of relevant professional experience in renewable energy project finance, investment analysis, corporate banking, or private equity, with a proven track record in developing markets, preferably in Africa. Experience working within a multilateral development bank, international financial institution, or a leading renewable energy developer/financier is highly advantageous.
