Job Overview

The Compliance Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Barclays Bank Gambia adheres to all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and controls in line with local and international regulations.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and compliance reviews across all banking products and services.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, assess impact, and advise senior management on necessary actions.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory filings, reports, and disclosures to the Central Bank of The Gambia and other authorities.
  • Lead investigations into potential compliance breaches, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide training and awareness programs for staff on anti‑money laundering (AML), counter‑terrorist financing (CTF), and other compliance topics.
  • Collaborate with internal audit to ensure alignment of audit findings with compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of compliance activities, incidents, and remediation efforts.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Gambian banking regulations, AML/CTF frameworks, and international compliance standards (e.g., Basel III, FATF).
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with regulators, senior leadership, and staff.
  • Proficiency in compliance monitoring tools and data analysis software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in compliance, risk management, or regulatory affairs within a banking or financial services environment. Prior exposure to the Gambian regulatory landscape and experience conducting AML/CTF investigations will be viewed favorably.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 800,000 to SSP 1,200,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, the role includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
