Job Overview

The Mining Operations Geologist will play a pivotal role in directing geological investigations, interpreting data, and supporting the extraction planning process for Glencore’s emerging mining project in Kerewan. Reporting to the Senior Exploration Manager, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, environmental specialists, and community liaison officers, to ensure that exploration activities align with regulatory standards and corporate sustainability goals. This position is central to delivering high‑quality geological models that drive efficient resource extraction and maximize project profitability. Key Responsibilities

• Lead field mapping, sampling, and geophysical surveys across designated exploration blocks.
• Develop and maintain 3D geological models using industry‑standard software such as Leapfrog and Surfer.
• Interpret drill core data, assay results, and geochemical analyses to define ore zones.
• Collaborate with mining engineers to translate geological findings into mine design and scheduling inputs.
• Prepare technical reports, maps, and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols during all field activities.
• Mentor junior geologists and field assistants, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, Surfer, GIS).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work independently in remote field conditions.
• Knowledge of Gambian mining regulations and permitting processes.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., Professional Geologist) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years’ experience in mineral exploration, geological mapping, and data interpretation within the mining sector. Prior experience working in West Africa or similar emerging markets is preferred.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 SSP, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted annually.
