Vacancy Announcement – United Nations Local Staff Credit Union (UNLSCU)
Reports to: Treasurer
Location: UN House, Cape point Bakau
Background
The United Nations Local Staff Cooperative Credit Union (UNLSCU) is located at the United Nations Office in Cape Point, Bakau. The Credit Union was established on 20 August 2009 under the Co-operative Societies Act, Cap 50.02 (Section 7).
It was formed by local staff from various United Nations agencies with the objective of promoting a culture of savings and providing members with access to loan facilities. The Credit Union currently has over 100 members, and its day-to-day operations and management are overseen by an Executive Board.
Job Purpose
The Accounts Officer provides essential operational support by performing routine accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial data entry, supporting payment processing, and maintaining members’ records. This role contributes to effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and the smooth and efficient financial operations of the Credit Union.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Processing & Bookkeeping
- Record daily financial transactions into NACCUG soft.
- Maintain orderly filing of receipts, vouchers, invoices, and financial documentation.
- Prepare basic journal entries, cashbook updates, and assist with posting.
Withdrawal Processing (Operational Level)
- Prepare withdrawal request with accurate supporting documents.
- Maintain detailed payment registers and follow up on outstanding invoices.
Reconciliations & Controls (Support Role)
- Maintain Accounts payable and inventory reconciliations.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Report observed anomalies to the Borad through the Chairman promptly.
Reporting & Document Preparation
- Prepare monthly preliminary financial summaries.
- Compile supporting documents for internal/external audits.
- Maintain well-organized, audit-ready files.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Support in the payment of transport refund at meeting as requested.
- Provide clerical support: scanning, archiving, indexing documents.
- Participate in training sessions and support continuous improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- AAT/CAT, Diploma, or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Basic training in bookkeeping, Excel, or accounting software (added advantage).
- 0–2 years of experience.
- Good understanding of basic accounting principles and inventory processes.
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, formulas, tables).
- Basic proficiency in accounting software (NACCUG Soft).
- Ability to prepare vouchers, reconcile petty cash, Bank reconciliation and maintain financial documentation.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Understanding internal controls and compliance procedures.
