Job Overview

The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer will support the product development team in creating, testing, and refining mechanical components for Toyota’s vehicle lineup tailored for the African market. Working closely with senior engineers, the role involves translating design concepts into detailed 3‑D models, performing stress analysis, and ensuring compliance with international automotive standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3‑D CAD models of engine mounts, chassis components, and suspension parts using CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) to assess structural integrity and optimize designs for weight reduction.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure design feasibility.
  • Prepare technical drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and documentation for prototype fabrication.
  • Support prototype testing, gather performance data, and iterate designs based on test results.
  • Maintain design databases and ensure version control in accordance with company standards.
  • Assist senior engineers in supplier selection and evaluation of component specifications.
  • Participate in design review meetings and contribute innovative ideas to improve product reliability.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or Autodesk Inventor).
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles, especially stress analysis and material selection.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for teamwork and reporting.
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards such as ISO/TS 16949.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required. Candidates who have completed internships or co‑op programs in automotive or manufacturing environments will be given preference.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 2 to 4 years of hands‑on experience in mechanical design, preferably within the automotive or heavy‑equipment sector. Experience with prototype development, testing, and iterative design processes is highly valued.

Salary
