Job Overview
The Logistics Operations Manager will lead the end‑to‑end management of freight movements, ensuring that shipments are processed accurately, on time and within budget. Reporting to the Regional Operations Director, you will oversee a team of coordinators, supervise daily warehouse activities, and collaborate with customs authorities to guarantee compliance with local regulations. This position plays a pivotal role in optimizing route planning, managing carrier relationships, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality and reduce operational costs. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between customers, internal departments and external partners, delivering exceptional service that aligns with DHL’s global standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate all inbound and outbound logistics activities for the Banjul hub.
- Develop and implement efficient routing strategies to minimize transit times and costs.
- Manage relationships with airlines, ocean carriers, trucking firms and local agents.
- Ensure compliance with Gambian customs regulations, import/export documentation and safety standards.
- Lead a team of logistics coordinators, providing coaching, performance feedback and career development.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on‑time delivery, freight cost per unit and inventory accuracy.
- Identify process bottlenecks and drive Lean Six Sigma projects to improve operational efficiency.
- Prepare regular operational reports for senior management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to address client inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Oversee the implementation of DHL’s digital tracking platforms and ensure data integrity.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in logistics software and Excel.
- Excellent negotiation skills for carrier contracts and service level agreements.
- Leadership experience managing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
- In‑depth knowledge of customs procedures and international trade regulations.
- Effective communication skills in English; French or local languages are a plus.

Education
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline is required. Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in logistics operations, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience within an international freight forwarding environment, especially handling multimodal shipments, will be highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from 1,500,000 to 2,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, performance‑based bonuses and allowances are offered to recognize outstanding contributions.
