Job Overview
The Network Planning Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing and expanding MTN Gambia’s radio access network (RAN) to meet growing demand for high‑speed data and voice services. Working closely with the Radio Access Team, you will conduct capacity planning, site acquisition analysis, and performance modeling to ensure optimal coverage, quality of service and cost efficiency. You will also collaborate with vendors, regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders to align network strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed radio network plans, including frequency allocation, cell site placement and antenna configuration.
- Perform capacity forecasting and traffic analysis to anticipate future demand and recommend network upgrades.
- Conduct drive‑test measurements and post‑deployment performance validation to ensure compliance with KPIs.
- Collaborate with civil engineering, procurement and construction teams for efficient site acquisition and rollout.
- Prepare technical documentation, cost‑benefit analyses and project proposals for senior management.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities to secure spectrum licenses and ensure compliance with national telecom regulations.
- Utilize planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or Mentum to simulate network scenarios and optimize parameters.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and interns.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and legacy GSM/UMTS technologies.
- Proficiency with radio planning software (e.g., Atoll, Planet, Mentum).
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
- Familiarity with RF engineering principles, propagation models and antenna theory.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline adherence.
- Ability to interpret regulatory guidelines and spectrum allocation policies.
- Commitment to continuous learning in emerging telecom technologies.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree in a relevant field are advantageous and demonstrate a deeper technical foundation.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in radio network planning, optimization or design within a major telecom operator or a reputable consultancy. Experience with 4G/5G deployments in emerging markets is highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications and performance. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
