Job Overview

The Construction Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, executing and monitoring construction projects for LafargeHolcim Gambia. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the engineer will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with design specifications, and manage timelines and budgets. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules and cost estimates in collaboration with design and procurement teams.
  • Monitor on‑site construction activities to ensure adherence to technical specifications, safety standards and quality requirements.
  • Prepare and present progress reports, risk assessments and mitigation strategies to senior management.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and local authorities to secure permits, deliveries and approvals.
  • Implement and enforce health, safety and environmental policies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize project management software to track milestones, resource allocation and budget variances.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and resolve technical issues promptly.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods and material specifications.
  • Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with internal teams, clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Commitment to safety culture and environmental compliance.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required. Professional certifications such as PMP or PE are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

Candidates should possess 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in construction project engineering, preferably within the cement, concrete or infrastructure sectors. Experience managing projects of $5 million + value is highly desirable.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may be included.
