Job Overview

This role is part of a critical initiative to restore degraded coastal ecosystems along The Gambia’s shoreline. The specialist will lead field operations, coordinate with local communities, and implement restoration strategies to enhance biodiversity and resilience against rising sea levels. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global environmental goals while working in one of West Africa’s most ecologically significant regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute coastal ecosystem restoration projects, including mangrove reforestation and wetland rehabilitation
• Conduct field assessments to monitor ecosystem health and measure restoration progress
• Collaborate with local communities to develop sustainable land-use practices
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders
• Secure funding through grant proposals and partnerships

Required Skills

• Expertise in coastal ecology, marine biology, or environmental restoration
• Proficiency in GIS mapping and ecological data analysis
• Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills
• Experience with environmental policy frameworks and climate adaptation strategies
• Ability to work in remote field conditions

Education
