Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geophysics Research Scientist to join our team in the Gambia. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and delivering research projects in geophysics, and will work closely with our local partners to develop and implement new research programmes. The role will involve a combination of fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation, and will require the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Geophysics and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in a research institution or industry. They will have a strong track record of research publication and a proven ability to lead and manage research projects. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively with colleagues and partners from a range of backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver research projects in geophysics, including fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation.
- Develop and implement new research programmes in collaboration with local partners.
- Conduct research and publish papers in high-impact journals.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff and students.
- Represent the BGS at national and international conferences and meetings.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Geophysics or a related field.
- At least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in a research institution or industry.
- Strong track record of research publication and a proven ability to lead and manage research projects.
