Job Overview
As a Port Operations Manager, you will oversee daily activities at the Kanifing Port Complex, ensuring efficient cargo handling, vessel scheduling, and compliance with international maritime regulations. This role requires strategic leadership to optimize port throughput while maintaining safety standards and fostering relationships with shipping lines, customs authorities, and local stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise cargo loading/unloading operations and container management
- Coordinate with shipping companies for vessel berthing schedules
- Implement safety protocols for port workers and equipment operators
- Monitor port performance metrics and prepare operational reports
- Manage port infrastructure maintenance and equipment upgrades
- Ensure compliance with Gambia Maritime Authority regulations
- Develop strategies to improve port efficiency and reduce turnaround times
Required Skills
- Proven experience with port management software systems
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Excellent problem-solving skills under pressure
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations
- Fluency in English and basic French
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
