Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Sustainable Agriculture Specialist to join our team in Niamina, Gambia. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of our sustainable agriculture programs in the region.

The Sustainable Agriculture Specialist will work closely with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture practices, improve crop yields, and enhance the livelihoods of rural people.

The position is based in Niamina, Gambia, and requires frequent travel to rural areas. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of sustainable agriculture practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of sustainable agriculture programs in the region
  • Work with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture practices
  • Conduct field visits to monitor program progress and provide technical assistance to farmers
  • Develop and implement training programs for farmers and extension agents
  • Collaborate with other IFAD staff to ensure effective program implementation

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Science or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture or a related field
  • Strong understanding of sustainable agriculture practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Fluency in English and local languages

Education

The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in Agricultural Science or a related field. A Ph.D. in a related field is an asset.

Experience

The successful candidate must have at least 5-7 years of experience in sustainable agriculture or a related field. Experience working with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders is highly desirable.

Salary

The salary for this position is 40,000 – 60,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
