ABB Gambia is seeking a skilled Industrial Robotics Maintenance Technician to join our Technical Services team in Bwiam. Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on industrial robotic systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex automation system failures using technical manuals, diagnostic software, and testing equipment
- Calibrate robotic systems, end effectors, and peripheral equipment to ensure precise operation and product quality
- Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and parts inventory using computerized maintenance management systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement system upgrades, retrofits, and performance improvements
- Provide technical support and training to client personnel on proper operation and basic troubleshooting of robotic systems
- Follow strict safety protocols when working with high-voltage equipment, moving machinery, and automated systems
- Coordinate with parts department to ensure availability of critical spare components for maintenance activities
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance procedures and reduce system downtime
- Stay current with latest robotics technologies, software updates, and maintenance techniques through training and self-study
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of robotic system components including controllers, manipulators, drives, and sensors
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams
- Experience with robotic programming languages (RAPID for ABB systems preferred) and PLC ladder logic
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities for complex electromechanical systems
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet)
- Ability to use precision measurement tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic software
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, team members, and management
- Physical capability to work in industrial environments, including lifting, bending, and working at heights
- Adaptability to work on diverse automation systems across different manufacturing sectors
Education
Candidates must possess a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Automation Technology, or a related technical field. Certification in industrial robotics maintenance (ABB or equivalent) is highly desirable. Additional training in industrial safety, PLC programming, or mechanical systems will be considered an advantage for this employment in Gambia.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial robotic systems, preferably in manufacturing or industrial service environments. Experience with ABB robotic systems is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate practical experience in troubleshooting automation equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and working with industrial control systems. Experience in training others on equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures is beneficial.

Working Environment
