Job Overview
The Satellite Communications Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Orange Gambia’s satellite backhaul infrastructure. This position ensures reliable high‑capacity connectivity for remote sites, supports disaster recovery strategies, and contributes to the overall resilience of the national telecom network. The engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including RF planning, network operations, and procurement, to deliver end‑to‑end satellite solutions that meet performance, cost, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer satellite link architectures, including VSAT, GEO, and LEO constellations, to support voice, data, and IoT services.
- Conduct site surveys, RF planning, and link budget analysis to optimize signal quality and bandwidth utilization.
- Coordinate with vendors and satellite operators for equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Monitor and troubleshoot satellite network performance using NOC tools, ensuring SLA compliance and rapid fault resolution.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and best‑practice procedures for satellite operations.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies to secure spectrum licenses and ensure compliance with national and international regulations.
- Lead capacity planning initiatives and recommend upgrades to meet growing traffic demands.
- Participate in disaster recovery drills and develop contingency plans for network continuity.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of satellite communication technologies, modulation schemes, and antenna systems.
- Proficiency in RF planning software (e.g., Atoll, Planet) and link budget calculations.
- Experience with VSAT equipment, satellite routers, and network management platforms.
- Solid understanding of IP networking, MPLS, and QoS mechanisms.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and vendor negotiations.
- Ability to work independently in remote field locations and adapt to challenging environments.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Satellite Professional (CSP) or equivalent are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to technical excellence.
Experience
