Job Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist to join our team in Soma, Gambia. The successful candidate will work closely with the UNDP Country Office in Gambia to support the government in reducing disaster risk and promoting sustainable development.
The Sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the government and local partners to develop and implement disaster risk reduction strategies and plans. The specialist will also work with communities to build their capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in disaster risk reduction, environmental science, or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience in a similar role. The candidate should also have excellent communication and project management skills, and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to the government and local partners to develop and implement disaster risk reduction strategies and plans.
- Work with communities to build their capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop risk reduction plans for communities and local governments.
- Develop and implement training programs for local partners and communities on disaster risk reduction and management.
- Collaborate with other UN agencies and partners to ensure a coordinated response to disasters.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Environmental Science, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Education
The ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with additional relevant certifications or training may also be considered.
Experience
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a developing country context. The candidate should have experience in disaster risk reduction, environmental science, or a related field, and be familiar with the SDGs and the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda.
Salary
The salary for this position is 50,000 – 70,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
